Kids Roller Skates

Some people develop an interest in roller skating at a very young age, inspiring them to find their own set of skates to explore their new passion. In fact, children as young as five or six can develop the skills and coordination needed to succeed as a novice roller skater. And just like adults, young roller skaters find themselves drawn to specific forms of skating. Your new athlete might be excited to try outdoor skating, delve into artistic skating, or express themselves through rhythm skating. In any case, your child will need strong, durable, and safe equipment to start their skating career properly. And that’s where we come in.

At Riedell, we’re passionate about creating innovative, top-quality skating gear for boys and girls of all ages and experience levels. Finding The Best Skate For Your Child

The comfort and performance of your kid’s skates can play a huge role in encouraging them to stick with roller skating. Unfortunately, many young skaters have been deterred from their new hobby due to improper equipment that’s irritating or painful to skate with. Consequently, it’s very important to find skates that fit appropriately and mesh well with your kid’s preferred skating style. To help get you started, here’s a quick and simple guide you can use to find the right roller skates for your child.

Assessing Your Kid’s Skate Size

Although it might seem like a daunting task at first, figuring out the proper size for your kid’s skates is pretty simple. In a vast majority of cases, a child’s ideal roller skate size will line up with their normal shoe size, so we recommend matching their skate size with their current shoe size. The fit will most likely be tighter than what they feel in their normal shoes, but the material will stretch and mold to your child’s feet over time, creating a snug and comfortable fit. Moreover, if your child is on a half size, we advise you to go up to the next full size to allow them to grow into it.

Accounting for Your Kid’s Skating Style

Different skating styles involve a range of unique maneuvers and performance expectations, which is why top-quality skates will make use of certain boot designs, bearings, wheels, and other components to meet these demands. To guarantee that the skates you purchase align with your child’s performance needs, you’ll need to determine which field of skating they’re most interested in. Whether your child wants to specialize in derby, jam, rhythm, speed, or any other form of skating, Riedell offers quality roller skate sets that deliver outstanding performance and longevity. But if your child isn’t quite sure which skating style they’d like to pursue yet, then you can feel free to pick up a set of recreational skates. General skates like these will give your child a fantastic and safe skating experience while they explore different styles and pin down one they love.

Trying on the Skates

We generally recommend having your child try out their skates before committing to a purchase. It’s OK to skip this step, but it is useful to ensure that the roller skates you choose fit properly and suit your child’s exact needs and preferences. There are a few important pieces of information you need to keep in mind during this trial process. Firstly, remember that any fresh roller skate will take some time to break in. Eventually, a roller skate boot will reform to match the foot and ankle shape of its wearer. Until then, your child’s boot might feel slightly tighter than desired. But as long as the skate isn’t painful or uncomfortable to wear, this problem should resolve itself within a few skating sessions. Furthermore, don’t try to pad your child’s feet up with multiple layers of socks to create a better fit. If a boot is too large for your child’s normal foot size while wearing one pair of socks, then it’s not the right choice for them.

Last but not least, it’s imperative to understand how an ideal roller skate fit should feel. Proper skates will feel comfortably tight when first worn, keeping your child’s foot perfectly in place while they skate around. We emphasize this point because loose skates simply don’t offer the proper support and protection your child needs to enjoy a safe, consistent skating experience. When in doubt, err on the side of safety and go with tighter skates.
