Why I Skate Riedell:
It is the highest quality boot out there. It’s reliable, durable, and conforms to my needs as a skater. Not to mention the amazing customer support, the ability to customize your boot to your liking, and I love that as a brand they support our sport with such positivity.
How I Got into Roller Derby:
I went to a game in 2008 – it was a showcase bout of Fresh Meat skaters. As I was watching I looked to my husband and I said, I can totally play this sport. I tried out for Fresh Meat the next week and was on a team within six months!
Before arriving at the Venue: Ensure I get a healthy filling breakfast (as that may be my biggest meal of the day). Prepare any snacks or food I will need to keep my energy levels up all day. And relax, visualize, and mobilize so my body and mind are at ease when I arrive at the venue. At the Venue: Off Skates warm up with my team. Gear up and head to the track and lock in all my stops (hockey, plow and toe). Practice some hitting off the track to the outside and inside and then come in to have our pre-game talk and pep talk.
Favorite Thing(s) To Do Outside of Derby:
Crossfit and Cook. I found Crossfit about 2 years ago and I enjoy that it not only helps me to be a better derby player, but it’s another community of athletes that encourages and challenges me as a person and an athlete. And I really enjoy reading about food, cooking, and trying out new recipes. I find it relaxes me to be in the kitchen all night and finding new and inventive ways to eat healthy but have it still taste good.
