Why I choose to skate Riedell:
Because I deserve to skate in the best. Riedell is a family business with a global reach. They are passionate about supporting the growth of roller derby worldwide, so I am thrilled to be associated with that legacy.
I also love the customization options that Riedell offers, having rainbows, cocktails and cuteness on my skates makes my heart happy!
If I could only skate in one place for the rest of my life, it would be:
Probably along the beach in Venice, California. I love it because if you roll right from the Santa Monica pier you start with a good stretch that is pretty deserted and you can get some good speed up (and a nice sweat), by the time you roll into Venice, there is lots of interesting characters to check out and plenty of buzz on the streets. You finish the skate at Venice Beach Skatepark where there is folx of all generations jam skating and riding the bowls, so it's a pretty amazing inter-generational skate space...plus there is bars across the street so a margarita is never far away!
My personal motto:
Work hard in practice and push yourself and your teammates to the limit. If you can reach breaking point at practice regularly then game day is going to feel like a breeze.
My favorite music to jam out to:
I love to listen to upbeat pop hip hop like Lil Simz, Lizzo and TT the artist when skating, that all get's me SUPER pumped to have fun on the track. Usually before an important game I can't listen to that stuff though, as I get too pumped and that usually results in me wanting to hit everyone near me waaay too much. So before games I tend to listen to really chill things like Miguel, Frank Ocean and Cautious Clay.
3 words to describe me:
Fruity. Fierce. Committed....if I could add a 4th it would be Fabulous.
3 fun facts that most people don't know about me:
- I grew up on a 1300 acre beef farm in rural Australia, so I spent the first 17 years of my life as a farm girl!
I'm incredibly clumsy, so I tend to drop things I'm holding, run into doors, miss my mouth when I'm trying to drink things, or trip over my own feet multiple times a day.
I don't wear pants aka LEG PRISONS, I pretty much exclusively wear dresses and skirts except when playing derby because I hate pants.
Someone I admire and why:
Mick Swagger, because they are a tireless advocate for their community, they have spent most of their adult life fighting and working for the rights of POC folx all over the world both inside the derby community and out. They are a vibrant beckon of their beautiful native culture and I admire the way they embody their traditional native practices and crafts every day. They do SO much work for other people and ask for very little in return and their selflessness has literally changed roller derby forever. There's not many people that you can pin point (I can't think of a single other) that have changed the social dialog of our entire community, but they have. They stand for something that matters, and they fight to share that message every day.
